Engineer-to-Order (ETO ERP)

The simplified definition of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a set of applications that automate finance and human resources departments and help manufacturers handle jobs such as order processing and production scheduling. ERP began as a term used to describe a sophisticated and integrated software system used for manufacturing. In its simplest sense, ERP systems create interactive environments designed to help companies manage and analyze the business processes associated with manufacturing goods, such as inventory control, order taking, accounting, and much more. Although this basic definition still holds true for ERP systems, today its definition is expanding. Today’s leading ERP systems group all traditional company management functions (finance, sales, manufacturing, and human resources). Many systems include, with varying degrees of acceptance and skill, solutions that were formerly considered peripheral such as product data management (PDM), warehouse management, manufacturing execution system (MES), and reporting. During the last few years the functional perimeter of ERP systems began an expansion into its adjacent markets, such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence/data warehousing, and e-business, the focus of this knowledge base is mainly on the traditional ERP realms of finance, materials planning, and human resources. The foundation of any ERP implementation must be a proper exercise of aligning customers' IT technology with their business strategies, and subsequent software selection.

Reconnecting with Cincom Systems

Cincom executives lay out some facts, and Technology Evaluation Centers (TEC) Principal Analyst P.J. Jakovljevic discovers that Cincom Acquire isn't the old-school client-server sales product configurator he thought it was. Since about 2005, Cincom Acquire has been Web-enabled and functionally expanded to instill knowledge into sales processes (not only into engineering processes).

ERP Systems and the ETO Manufacturing Market Part Two: ETO versus Repetitive Differences

ETO-oriented (engineer-to-order) systems must facilitate the near real time transfer of information and complex product knowledge for collaboration across the extended enterprise. It should especially be suited to organizations that seek to maintain complex selling relationships, such as businesses whose procurement and sales functions rely on subcontractors, channel partnerships or a distributed sales force.

top 10 manufacturing apps eto  product design almost never stops, given customers'' prerogative of changing their minds in the midstream, to a degree that they feel free to change specifications or add new requirements to the original orders, sometimes by directly instructing the supplier''s manufacturing personnel and circumventing the proper channel of the sales and engineering department. Occasionally, the customer might attempt to play dumb and even refuse to pay for any changes to the original orders if the enterprise is unable to Read More

Best Manufacturing Scheduling Systems

The market place is awash with many kinds of manufacturing scheduling systems. Due to the dynamic nature of the manufacturing shop floor, it is of utmost importance that a manufacturing scheduling system can take care of these dynamic conditions.

top 10 manufacturing apps eto  Manufacturing Scheduling Systems Introduction All manufacturing planning and scheduling systems can be broadly grouped into two kinds: static and dynamic . While static systems cannot deal with changing conditions prevalent on shop floors, dynamic systems are able to deal with them to varying degrees, depending on the system''s inherent capabilities. Static scheduling systems can be deployed at manufacturing sites where orders are repetitive and there are minimal variations among the products and Read More
