Are You Tuned into Radio Frequency Identification?
This article examines the organizational fit of radio frequency identification (RFID) and its technology’s basic mechanics. Its prohibitive costs often account for the decision to not implement RFID. Yet some factors influencing adoption may shed new light on why RFID is important.

RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMITTERS: Are You Tuned into Radio Frequency Identification? Are You Tuned into Radio Frequency Identification? Dylan Persaud - November 28, 2007 Read Comments Originally published - June 15, 2007 Radio frequency identification (RFID) has been around for over 60 years, so why does it have such negative connotations? Many misconceptions and horror stories of organizations failed implementations have been plastered all over the press, which has contributed to the negative perceptions of this re-emerging technology.

As Hype Becomes Reality, a Radio Frequency Identification Ecosystem Emerges Part Two: The Middleware Dilemma, Partnerships, and What Next?
Given the pressures on radio frequency identification (RFID) middleware vendors, pure-play middleware suppliers will likely either diversify or get absorbed by larger companies. All RFID vendors, regardless of category, will tend to form partnerships to hasten time to market.

A How-to Guide for a Radio Frequency Identification Site Survey
As organizations prepare for a radio frequency identification (RFID) implementation, they often don't understand the preliminary work necessary to begin the project. The importance of a site survey can influence the success or failure of an RFID project.

RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMITTERS: How-to Guide for a Radio Frequency Identification Site Survey A How-to Guide for a Radio Frequency Identification Site Survey Dylan Persaud - September 7, 2007 Read Comments A best practice approach to a radio frequency identification (RFID) implementation suggests that, as a preparatory task, a site survey be completed beforehand. A site survey will identify issues and hurdles to an RFID implementation, and suggest helpful, industry-proven techniques to solve these problems. The equipment, connection

IT Epidemic: Treating IT Client Relationship Breakdown
The frequency of breakdowns in the IT client relationship is reaching epidemic proportions. Indeed, an IT client breakdown is comparable to the onset of an illness. If caught early enough, treatment is often relatively painless. However, if left to advance to the later stages, or full maturity, the treatment will not only be invasive, but also require significant recovery time.

Food and Beverage Delights
Food and beverage manufacturers and distributors have many challenges on their plate, and even industry giants cannot afford to sit back. Given this backdrop, how can small to medium manufacturers cope with the same external pressures with comparatively fewer resources?

RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMITTERS: for this last point, radio frequency (RF) technology may not always be the best solution for sub-zero temperature environments, as RF devices can suffer from rapid battery depletion, and the heavy gloves that need to be worn may slow the way hand-held or wrist-mounted RF devices are used, or even lead to mistakes. A more practical long-term solution in such an environment, albeit with a more expensive initial investment, is a voice-directed operation using voice recognition (VR) technology. Manhattan

Active RFID Solutions for Asset Tracking and Inventory Management
Radio frequency identification (RFID) technology is fast replacing ScanCode technology in asset tracking and inventory management. Traditionally, asset tracking and inventory management in retail supply chain or manufacturing or service units depended heavily on manual scanning of bar code printed on each item at every strategic point. This white paper focuses on details of RFID technology and how you can automate asset tracking and inventory management of your enterprise using it. The white paper takes aid of a case study on how FicusSoft has developed and successfully implemented RFID integrated asset tracking and inventory management solutions for a reputed manufacturer of ultra-sensitive instruments used in the field of biotechnology and pharmaceutical research.

i-Lean

RADIO FREQUENCY TRANSMITTERS: Chiron's flagship product, i-Lean, is a logistics modeling and design tool built for warehousing, manufacturing, and retail environments. It employs a pull methodology used in conjunction with a lean inventory management strategy within a distribution or manufacturing facility. This is accomplished by integrating dozens of variables to generate inventory management solutions down to the stock-keeping unit (SKU) level. In addition to deriving operational recommendations, i-Lean lays out the cost components of each solution. The application establishes the foundation for a warehouse management system implementation, and supports  long-term inventory management maintenance programs. Using product demand, volumetrics, vendor lead time, material handling costs, and additional variables, i-Lean can make recommendations for material flows, inventory levels, and storage media types. It can also recommend cycle and safety stock levels along with bin sizes, as well as provide slotting recommendations. Annual operating costs can be recommended, and what-if comparisons of the costs and benefits of different inventory management strategies are supported. The results of an analysis run can be used in the Warehouse Design and Slotting Analysis features of i-Lean. These features use demand or actual ordering statistics for each part (such as order frequency or average order size) to recommend how a warehouse should be zoned, and how each part should be stored.
