The Informed Manufacturer—Tips, Tricks, and Tactics for High-tech Manufacturers
Most high-tech firms need to do a better job of capturing and sharing corporate and supply-chain data. Lean manufacturing practitioners often use a process metric called “right first time on time” (RFTOT). It not only applies to delivery of components and products moving through a value stream, but to delivery of information as well—product development, forecasting, sales and operations planning, etc. Find out more.

Sustained Growth and Profitability through Lean Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
While open innovation is a hot topic, capitalizing on opportunity requires a holistic strategy—not just increased collaboration. Companies must have repeatable, compliant, and responsive business processes. These processes must be supplemented by a global information infrastructure that provides a single source of the truth, along with alignment across departmental silos, and solutions that evolve without coding.

Integrated Lean Giving ERP the Flexibility to Push and Pull
Current manufacturing practices have been made cumbersome by the imposition of data recording activities required by manufacturing systems through the release, issuing, and expediting of the infamous work order. An integrated lean system utilizes full containers to signal the completion of product and backflushes the component material within the ERP system. Additionally, the integrated lean system (pull) can work simultaneously and in harmony with your MRP planning (push) to schedule your shop floor bottlenecks so that the bottleneck becomes the heartbeat (pull) for the remainder of the plant. Although originally scheduled, the bottleneck may use the integrated lean backflush routines as well! This white paper defines the integrated lean environment.

i-Lean
LEAN DEFINITION ROA
: Chiron's flagship product, i-Lean, is a logistics modeling and design tool built for warehousing, manufacturing, and retail environments. It employs a pull methodology used in conjunction with a lean inventory management strategy within a distribution or manufacturing facility. This is accomplished by integrating dozens of variables to generate inventory management solutions down to the stock-keeping unit (SKU) level. In addition to deriving operational recommendations, i-Lean lays out the cost components of each solution. The application establishes the foundation for a warehouse management system implementation, and supports long-term inventory management maintenance programs. Using product demand, volumetrics, vendor lead time, material handling costs, and additional variables, i-Lean can make recommendations for material flows, inventory levels, and storage media types. It can also recommend cycle and safety stock levels along with bin sizes, as well as provide slotting recommendations. Annual operating costs can be recommended, and what-if comparisons of the costs and benefits of different inventory management strategies are supported. The results of an analysis run can be used in the Warehouse Design and Slotting Analysis features of i-Lean. These features use demand or actual ordering statistics for each part (such as order frequency or average order size) to recommend how a warehouse should be zoned, and how each part should be stored.
