Discrete Manufacturing (ERP)

The simplified definition of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a set of applications that automate finance and human resources departments and help manufacturers handle jobs such as order processing and production scheduling. ERP began as a term used to describe a sophisticated and integrated software system used for manufacturing. In its simplest sense, ERP systems create interactive environments designed to help companies manage and analyze the business processes associated with manufacturing goods, such as inventory control, order taking, accounting, and much more. Although this basic definition still holds true for ERP systems, today its definition is expanding. Today’s leading ERP systems group all traditional company management functions (finance, sales, manufacturing, and human resources). Many systems include, with varying degrees of acceptance and skill, solutions that were formerly considered peripheral such as product data management (PDM), warehouse management, manufacturing execution system (MES), and reporting. During the last few years the functional perimeter of ERP systems began an expansion into its adjacent markets, such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence/data warehousing, and e-business, the focus of this knowledge base is mainly on the traditional ERP realms of finance, materials planning, and human resources. The foundation of any ERP implementation must be a proper exercise of aligning customers'' IT technology with their business strategies, and subsequent software selection.

Ask the Experts: Approaches to Data Mining ERP

From one of our readers comes this question: I am a student of IT Management; I have an ERP course and I am supposed to write an article to review new aspects of ERP systems. I’ve decided to explore the reasons for using data mining techniques in ERP systems—and to look at different modules to which these techniques have been applied. I am going to prepare a framework to determine

erp presenting technical data  SATENSTEIN Data mining in ERP (which can also be considered business intelligence [BI]) is a very large topic and is very module- or industry-specific. In banking, for example, data mining is used in real time to determine patterns of credit and debit card transactions, looking for fraudulent use. It is also used to search for anomalies in funds transfers, again mainly looking for fraud. Data mining in banking is used to look for out-of-the-normal business transactions such as bad debt protection, to Read More

(Forgotten) CRM and ERP Kingdoms in the Making?

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) and customer relationship management (CRM) vendor Consona is determined to establish a CRM “kingdom” based on Consona Enterprise CRM. Read this comprehensive analysis of Consona Enterprise CRM to find out what lies ahead for this flagship product.

erp presenting technical data  , and other monolithic ERP and CRM systems, Consona Enterprise CRM does not force customers to adapt their (sometimes differentiating) business processes to the way the software works. With those one-size-fits-all systems, costly and time-consuming customizations are typically the only way out when market or customer requirements change. These large vendors tend to take the approach that they want to run everything throughout the user’s organization, which is not a viable approach for many because it Read More

The Role of ERP in Globalization

Globalizing your market reach presents technology and business challenges to profitable growth. Your supply chain strategy for globalization should include an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that provides you with visibility into key performance indicators (KPIs). Find out why standardizing an automated ERP system across multiple sites can result in a 66 percent reduction in total time from delivery to order.

However, all ERP solution providers may not support the Unicode standard, or doublebyte representation, often required for eastern languages such as Chinese, Japanese, or Hebrew. In evaluating software, technology buyers should ask what restrictions will be placed on users that speak different languages but share a common instance of ERP. Translating Data Translation of data represents a different kind of challenge. Presenting internal descriptive data (such as general ledger account Read More

Essential ERP - Current Market Trends - Part II

ERP applications are designed to optimize an organization’s underlying business processes — primarily accounting/financial, manufacturing, distribution, and human resources/payroll. This note identifies current trends in the ERP market that we believe are the direct consequence of vendors’ attempts to 1) resolve current ERP functional and/or technological deficiencies, and/or 2) expand software sales both within their existing and potential customer bases.

The 5 Biggest Challenges When Implementing ERP for the First Time

Enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems or similar IT packages have become widely used in businesses of all sizes and types. From my understanding, small and family businesses or companies are the only ones yet to join the mainstream trend of implementing ERP software, although the vast majority of medium and lower-medium-sized companies have already performed an implementation at least once

Streaming Data and the Fast Data Stack

Big data is data at rest; fast data is streaming data, or data in motion. A stack is emerging across verticals and industries for building applications that process these high velocity streams of data. This new stack, the fast data stack, has a unique purpose: to grab real-time data and output recommendations, decisions, and analyses in milliseconds.

This white paper will look at the emerging fast data stack through the lens of streaming data to provide architects, CTOs, and developers with fundamental architectural elements of the new fast data stack: a LAMP stack for streaming data applications.
