Intel Server Trends
The Intel-based server market is one of the most hotly contested segments in the industry. What are the key trends in this market, and what will they mean to users, vendors, and the products themselves?

DATA STORAGE SERVER: if you optimize for database retrieval, you are causing another factor (such as Web serving or caching) to degrade. The unwillingness of users to pay for lots of extra/unneeded functionality. This is the natural by-product of #1 - you need to perform Task A really really well, but you don t want to be forced to pay for the overhead/infrastructure required to perform Tasks C and D. The rise of the Internet helped force the issue, making people focus on the above factors a lot more than they had

Intel Small Server Market
Who are the key players in the market segment of Intel small servers? What are the strengths and weaknesses of each, and when is one more appropriate than another?

DATA STORAGE SERVER: they consistently feedback customer data to the development organization. One of their latest features: focused, packaged systems. These are preconfigured systems aimed at particular segments, such as messaging or e-commerce, and Dell even breaks it down by number of clients/licenses/seats a customer expects to serve. Although we expect there to be a few early bugs vis--vis system tuning and tweaking, we feel this methodology has tremendous potential. Reliability In the aforementioned Computerworld survey

HP’s LT 6000r Six-CPU Server
HP has re-entered the enterprise computing race with the release of its LT 6000r, a six-CPU server with improved performance and excellent transactional price/performance.

DATA STORAGE SERVER: (This includes things like database transactions.) Price/performance HP had traditionally been a laggard in price/performance, as measured by $/tpmC. Its figures were typically several dollars per tpmC worse than competing offerings from Dell and Compaq (where $15-$18 was considered a good range), and only IBM s Netfinity servers (of the Big Four) cost more per unit transaction. With the LH 6000 (the LT s sister server), HP blew past the competition, racking up an impressive $13.95/tpmC. Although this

The Importance of Server Robustness in CRM
In today's software frenzy and with the increasing demand for applications that provide maximum return on investment, many companies have failed to focus on subjects like reliability, downtime, and scalability. Since 1991, Touchtone Corporation has devoted its efforts to developing and maintaining a client/server customer relationship management (CRM) application and has equipped more than 750 IBM AS/400 and iSeries customers with its native OS/400 CRM solution.

DATA STORAGE SERVER: can access real time data from other existing applications through an effortless integration with every department. This may improve overall productivity and help companies achieve better ROI. In a heterogeneous environment, the Wintouch eCRM platform independent and Java-applet solutions are easily accessed by Windows, Mac, or Linux through internet access. Batch updates can be used to integrate data from non-OS/400 based applications. The solution also allows the use of Web services allowing access to

Data Mart Calculator
Need a model to help calculate an estimate of manpower needs by role, timeline, and labor cost to build a data mart based on user-supplied variables? Here’s a calculator that provides two estimates. The first is based on using the traditional “develop by committee,” and the second on developing the same data mart at the developmental level. The model needs minimal input and can be changed to fit your needs. Find out more.

DOJ Keeps Low Profile on Curador; Protect Your IIS Server Today!
After insisting the perpetrator of the February Distributed Denial of Service attacks would be caught and punished, a month later, the Department of Justice, and Janet Reno, are keeping a low profile on the antics of an altogether different, but in many ways more serious, cyber attack. Take Remote Data Service precautions today. Here's how.

DATA STORAGE SERVER: that is called Remote Data Services (RDS). The best way to explain the importance of RDS is to understand the data manipulation limitations that occur without RDS in place. Once data has been retrieved from a webserver by a client, it becomes static and can no longer be manipulated without re-establishing a second connection to the database on the backend of the webserver. RDS fixes this limitation allowing disconnected objects to be cached, which enables the data to be dynamically updated and used for

New Life for Dead Storage Technologies: Consumer-driven Optical Storage in the Data Center
While optical technology has become the default removable storage medium on the desktop (CD and DVD), in enterprise storage the evidence of failure is unmistakable. After fifteen years, optical technologies in the enterprise storage market account for only a fraction of 1 percent of enterprise storage hardware spending. There is a dramatically different future, however, for some optical storage subsystems.
