Engineer-to-Order (ETO ERP)

The simplified definition of enterprise resource planning (ERP) software is a set of applications that automate finance and human resources departments and help manufacturers handle jobs such as order processing and production scheduling. ERP began as a term used to describe a sophisticated and integrated software system used for manufacturing. In its simplest sense, ERP systems create interactive environments designed to help companies manage and analyze the business processes associated with manufacturing goods, such as inventory control, order taking, accounting, and much more. Although this basic definition still holds true for ERP systems, today its definition is expanding. Today’s leading ERP systems group all traditional company management functions (finance, sales, manufacturing, and human resources). Many systems include, with varying degrees of acceptance and skill, solutions that were formerly considered peripheral such as product data management (PDM), warehouse management, manufacturing execution system (MES), and reporting. During the last few years the functional perimeter of ERP systems began an expansion into its adjacent markets, such as supply chain management (SCM), customer relationship management (CRM), business intelligence/data warehousing, and e-business, the focus of this knowledge base is mainly on the traditional ERP realms of finance, materials planning, and human resources. The foundation of any ERP implementation must be a proper exercise of aligning customers' IT technology with their business strategies, and subsequent software selection.

Are PLM and Global Sourcing Related? Duh, And How! (Part I)

A number of TEC blog posts have discussed benefits but also the inevitable caveats of white papers (including all too common vendors' self-serving marketing fluff and buzzword verbiage), and about their (un)intended audiences. These posts have even caused some heated debates with other blogging sites and experts on white papers, and I am going to stay away from all that here. My intention here

contract electronics  be offloaded to a contract manufacturer (CM). These CMs, whose role in the electronics industry was previously limited to assembling printed circuit boards, have meanwhile transformed themselves into large-scale manufacturing powerhouses. Indeed, modern CMs today provide their OEM customers with a one-stop shop solution, providing excellence not only in manufacturing, but also in materials management, design and test services, order fulfillment, and logistics. Again, despite the significant possible Read More

Coordinating Outsourced Manufacturing: A Win-win Proposition for Both Sides of Manufacturing Partnerships

Managing the demands of constant change is one of the biggest challenges facing the electronics manufacturing services (EMS) industry today. Collaboration between original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers (CMs) can help both sides leverage the supply chain to manage change. Find out about a solution that can help you create a successful collaboration strategy that optimizes your supply chain.

contract electronics  equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and contract manufacturers (CMs) share the opportunity to competitively differentiate themselves by actually embracing this issue and leveraging it to their mutual beneit. To achieve this goal, OEMs and CMs must adopt a common philosophy, share responsibility, and communicate in a way that enables them to meet customer needs. Without an integrated approach, only pieces of the problem can be addressed. Collaboration is key to a truly successful partnership that empowers all Read More
