SOA From a Management Perspective: Part Two
Despite the numerous benefits companies can expect from service-oriented architecture, the technology is still relatively new and implementation costs are steep, raising several concerns. For most companies, a wait-and-see approach is likely the best course of action for now.

ACH BROADER VALUE CHAIN PERSPECTIVE: be taking a wait-and-see approach, now would be a good time to get your Web services house in order. As SOA implementations start to proliferate across an enterprise, traditional, manual governance solutions, which include design walk-thru s, conference room pilots, and after-the-fact reporting, may be inadequate. Consequently, elements of the system life cycle approach will need to be reviewed to incorporate a more proactive governance strategy. Staid thinking that your application lifecycle has served

SOA From a Management Perspective: Part One
The big buzzword in enterprise-wide package software is service-oriented architecture (SOA). SOA promises to solve a company's software ills, making life easier for information technology departments. This research note takes a look at this new architecture and highlights some concerns.

ACH BROADER VALUE CHAIN PERSPECTIVE: NetWeaver ), SAP s approach is to deliver narrowly defined models or packages rather than release large-scale updates of closely interlinked components. By providing business process models, SAP provides the means of getting you up and running quickly, assuming that the models can fit within the constraints of your business. was capable of for each of the following four roles: program manager, engineering manager, mid-market manager, and supply chain sourcing manager. Of course, there are more roles for PLM solutions, but these selected roles together provide a quick but quite representative look of what ENOVIA is about. Compared with ENOVIA V6’s lengthy and hierarchical functionality list at this link , this roles approach is a more effective way of communication. A while ago, I wrote about the relevance between PLM and

Information Lifecycle Management: A Perspective
A new trend is emerging in the world of storage management, and it’s called information lifecycle management (ILM). Just what it is, however, varies significantly from vendor to vendor. Generally, ILM is a strategy for policy-based information management. Its mandate: to provide centralized management of all information assets, aligning storage resources with the value of the data residing in them.

Extending COBOL to SOA, Web Services, and Beyond: A Look at the Architecture with a Mainframe Perspective
In the rush to explore the “next big thing” in software technology, it’s easy to forget the huge investment you’ve already made in mainframe assets. These assets have performed the business functions that they were designed for, but it’s OK to remain open to new solutions too. By leveraging existing assets while moving to a service-based architecture, you can extend your existing business resources while saving money.

have found a different approach. I will admit to bias – I work for the solution provider. But, that does not change the degree of the problem nor the validity of the solution. See www.kinaxis.com for more information. Devil s Advocate on 28 April, 2010 at 9:29 pm # I’m a huge fan of both Kinaxis’ RapidResponse and Excel. The article goes a bit overboard however. Software Selection: A Third Alternative Part One: The Buyer s Perspective
Recently, the traditional method of selecting software based on functions and features has come under scrutiny. Some even suggest that this method is unduly drawn out and fails to focus on the critical processes of business. As you might expect, vendors would rather sell you out-of-the-box business processes and solutions that would improve efficiency, increase yields, and drive their costs down. A third alternative for selecting software, which will be discussed in this article, attempts to provide the assurances needed by the buyer and the efficiency desired by the vendor.

ACH BROADER VALUE CHAIN PERSPECTIVE: There are two prevailing approaches for selecting enterprise-wide software. First, there is the traditional analysis of a company s needs versus the functions and features of the software and identifying the vendor s software with the best fit or least gaps. Second is selecting software with the best practices and processes to meet, satisfy, and improve the business-critical aspects of a company. The tagline that typically accompanies this second method is Why worry about accounting? Worry about the

Maximizing the Value of an M&A!
Mergers and acquisitions (M&As) often lead to a lot of confusion, particularly with regard to systems and processes. Usually, monolithic enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems are in operation in both the firms, which are programmed with specific knowledge intrinsic to the firm’s core operations. This paper debates the options that have to be considered when both the firms are being managed by similar, competing, or best-of-breed ERP packages.

Supply Chain Cost-cutting Strategies
Your Challenge: Get Decision Makers' Approval for Supply Chain Cost-Cutting Strategies. Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-Bound. Process industries (chemicals, food and beverage, oil and gas, etc.) face rising manufacturing and logistics costs. And they’re finding that the old strategies for cost containment no longer pack the same punch. Some surveys show that 75 percent of all respondents are redesigning their supply chains to keep these costs in check. Are you one of them? No? You’ve got a lot of catching up to do—and very little time to do it.

ACH BROADER VALUE CHAIN PERSPECTIVE: 6% or less To achieve these enormous advantages over their peers, they have taken radically differ- ent actions in organization structure and supply chain technology investment. As a result, Best in Class companies are much further ahead in closed-loop integration of supply chain planning and execution, in addition to data and process visibility across their end- to-end supply chain and from plant floor to top floor.
